I/O Analyzer


VMware I/O Analyzer is a virtual appliance solution, which provides a simple and standardized way of measuring storage performance in VMware vSphere virtualized environments. I/O Analyzer supports two types of workload generator: IOmeter for synthetic workload and trace replay for real-world application workload. It collects both guest level statistics as well as the host level statistics via VMware VI SDK. Standardizing load generation and stats collection increases the confidence of the customer and VMware engineers in the data collected. It also ensures completeness of data collected.


VMware Virtual Disk Monitoring Script

Purpose

To obtain the average writes (Kbps) on each of the virtual disks of Virtual Machines

Pre-requisites

      ·VMware  Power CLI
      ·Statistics Level has to be set to Level 2 in vCenter

Function

·     · It calculates Average Writes (Kbps) of each virtual disks of the virtual machine
  o It averages data for every 5 minutes
     o Maximum duration it populates data is 5 days
    · It automatically detects all the VMs  with vCenter  and capture the values
    · If a virtual machine has 2 disks attached it will give the writes for individual disk instance

VMware SRM Actual Failover and Failback

It is a five steps process for Failover and Failback
1.Protect the VMs on the Primary Site
This is the initial step where you configure Protection Group, it protects the VMs
2. Failover the VMs to Recovery Site
When disaster happens we need to initiate failover from Primary Site to Recovery Site
3. Re-Protect the VMs
When the Actual Primary Site is up after the Disaster you re-protect the VMs
This will enable the replication from CP (DR)to IS (PR)
4. Failback the VMs to the Primary Site
Let the Synchronization completed from CP (DR)to IS (PR)
Announce down time for the failback to happen
Initiate the Failback to the Primary Site
5. Re-Protect the VMs
Once all the VMs are up we have to re-protect
It will enable replication as usual
Following screenshot will display of the Actual Failover and Failback

ReProtect

Once the Primary Site is backup you Re-Protect which will enable replication back to the original site

Failback Recovery

Once the replication starts working again you can failback the VMs back to the original site

Re-Protect

Once the Failback is happened you enable the replication to the DR environment
You are back to the original state.

VMware SRM Test Recovery and Cleanup

We can test the Recovery Plan we created which will mean it will start the VMs in a bubble network (isolated network) and ensure it will coming up or not.

Following steps demonstrates the Configuration of SRM 5.0 Server.

Connect the Sites

You will be presented with Certificate Warnings. You need to install the certificate so that it doesn’t prompt you next time

Setup Inventory Mappings

Resource Mappings

Highlight the ISLAB Cluster à Click on Configure Mapping


Folder Mappings

Highlight the ISLAB - PA Datacenter à  Click on Configure Mapping

Network Mappings

Highlight the VM Network à  Click on Configure Mapping

Placeholder Datastore

Configure Array Manager

We need to specify the Array Details which are Recover Point details. We need to configure for both the sites i.e. Protected Site and Recovery Site

We need to enable Array Pairs once the Array Managers have been added

Once you click Finish it will automatically protect the VMs which were part of the Database Groups.
